I made the shadow in Photoshop (naturally)...this is roughly the way I did it, though I didn't follow this tutorial myself (I learned how to do it from a book):

Blogger is weird about posting links in comments, in any case, you can Google 'how to create cast shadows in photoshop' to find some tutorials.
