Kuvano Vino and Monthly Theme Day

Call me superstitious, but I just don't feel right posting nothing but one old, previous posted photo on the first day of a brand new year, however I still want to take part in the City Daily Photo theme day, so...above is a photo from last night. It's two men working at an outdoor tent that was selling beverages including mulled wine and brandy. Yum! And below is one of my favorite photos from last year (that's this month's theme). Happy New Year - X for Xenium

I couldn't come up with an x word for today so I looked through the list that Yankee-in-Belgrade linked to to see if anything fit these photos I took today. The best I could come up with is xenium, which means "a gift made to a guest or ambassador; any compulsory gift." x=h in the Cyrillic alphabet but I decided not to go there. :-) ABC Wednesdays

People were doing some last minute shopping here today as gifts are typically given on New Year's, not at Christmas. Check out this gentleman's bag.

More New Year's fun for kids

There are pony rides next to the ice-skating rink. It's so cute.

City of Ice - Ice Skating

I stopped to take some pictures as I was passing through Nikola Pasic square and I couldn't choose just one to share today. This is a temporary ice-skating rink that runs until January 18th, free if you bring your own skates, or 150 dinars (about $2.60) to rent a pair of skates for the day. It was funny to see the kids learning to skate, and to be reminded of what a harrowing experience that was (as seen on the face of the boy in the picture on the left).

How's this for a joke:
"While ice-skating, my friend had a nasty fall, sliding face-downward 20-feet across the ice. The rink doctor examined the large bruise on his forehead and said, "You should put some ice on that."
*groan*

A little pick me up

This little girl was freshening up her wreath.
For Lazarus Saturday (Vrbica in Serbian) children wear wreaths made from willow branches (and bells on ribbons, too-- if you look closely you can see she has one around her neck). It's part of the Orthodox Easter celebration.
A Yankee in Belgrade blogged about this holiday yesterday, with help from her dog Bibi, I'm sure. :)
